Chinchilla Babies
All about baby chinchillas
Baby chinchillas are known as kits and are born in an average litter of 2, they must stay with their mother for at least seven weeks and male kits must be removed from their mother by 12 weeks. Kits usually weigh between 30 and 60 grams at birth, depending of the health of the mother and the number of kits in the litter. They are born with their eyes open and their body covered in fur, they are active within 15 minutes and are running around the cage in an hour.it is safest to breed both grays and this is the natural colour of chinchillas and prevents the risk of mortality in the young litter. Health of the mother is related to the health of the young chinchilla , as long as it is supplied with fresh water daily, hay, vitamins and sufficent food supply, they will have their first dust bath at around 10 days. |
